During a centre-page spread in The Sun newspaper today (September 1st), Kasabian have revealed plans to perform a special rooftop gig in New York as the city marks the 10th anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks.

Looking ahead to the show, Kasabian’s frontman Tom Meighan outlined the emotion which he expects to permeate their performance.

“It will be strange for us playing in the city on such a big weekend for New York people,” he said. “It will be emotional. I was at work and remember hearing 9/11 unfold on the radio. I remember going home and being in absolute shock. My mum had it on the news. It was awful.”

Guitarist and chief songwriter Serge Pizzorno remembers the day of the attacks, whose events he watched unfold at his bandmate’s house.

“Looking back to 9/11, I was at work. I went round Tom’s on my way home,” he reminisced. “I’d always go in for a tea and I was sat watching it with his mum when Tom came home from work. We were watching it in his front room. We were like everyone, thinking it was just mental.”

Kasabian’s new album, ‘Velociraptor!‘, is released later this month.
