Buddy Holly Honoured On Hollywood Walk Of Fame

buddyhollyBuddy Holly, one of the great early rock n roll pioneers, was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame on Wednesday (September 7th), on the day which would have marked his 75th birthday.

Holly is the final person to be inducted into the inaugural Rock and Roll Of Fame, following equally influential contemporaries such as Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis, Fats Domino, Ray Charles and the Everly Brothers, who have also received stars on the world famous Walk Of Fame.

Buddy Holly’s widow Maria Elena Holly, who was married to the singer for less than six months before his tragic death, has said the ceremony means Buddy has finally achieved a burning ambition.

“One of his dreams was to write scores for movies and to come to Hollywood and make his mark,” she said. “Half of that dream did not come true. But the other half did come true with this beautiful star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.”

After releasing early classics including ‘That’ll Be The Day‘ and ‘Peggy Sue‘, Buddy Holly died in a plane crash on February 3rd, 1959 at the age of just 22.
