Pete Doherty Finding It ‘Impossible’ To Deal With Amy Winehouse’s Death

petedohertyLibertines and Babyshambles songwriter Pete Doherty has spoken for the first time about the untimely death of his good friend Amy Winehouse, saying he is finding it ‘almost impossible’ to come to terms with the news.

Despite being easy targets for the UK press, who never missed an opportunity to take a swipe at their friendship, Doherty and Winehouse’s similar troubled paths through the often precarious world of music led to a close bond forming between the pair, and Doherty has now told The People newspaper he is struggling to deal with her passing.

“I’m struggling with everything because I’m so bewildered about what happened to Amy,” he said.

“I was in bed when I heard the news of her death. Someone had to wake me up to tell me. I couldn’t take it in and still can’t. Coming to terms with what has happened is almost impossible. It’s hard to think she’s not with us anymore.”

Hopes of Doherty’s reunion with The Libertines for an appearance at last year’s Reading/Leeds festival leading to a more permanent return for the band have cooled in recent months, with bandmate Carl Barat revealing any future plans ‘may not happen‘.
