Elbow frontman Guy Garvey has declared their recent Glastonbury appearance as ‘probably the best gig of our lives’ ahead of a Benicassim festival show today.
Garvey told digital station XFM the history of the venue, and both the size and mood of the crowd that Saturday evening made for a truly special experience.
“Glastonbury was probably the best gig of our lives, actually,” he remarked. “That iconic stage. that field. All those people doing exactly what I want them to. It’s bizarre. I think I said at one point, I’m sick of the power!”
So with their scheduled spot at Benicassim due today (July 15th), the band should be full of confidence. However, drummer Pete Turner wonders whether fate may decide their run of success since the release of 2008’s ‘The Seldom Seen Kid‘ should be given a little stutter: “We had a great gig here in 2008. We’re due a bad gig though!”
“Our drummer has a really bad habit of watching YouTube videos of people falling off stage just before they’re about to go on,” Garvey added. “Is it bad karma? Yes, exactly!”
Elbow released their critically acclaimed fifth studio album ‘Build a Rocket Boys!‘ back in March this year.
