Mumford & Sons Match Coldplay Chart Success In UK and US

9650315 Mumford and Sons 01British folksters Mumford & Sons look well on the way to becoming the biggest UK export since Coldplay after figures released today showed their debut album ‘Sigh No More‘ has passed the 1 million sales mark on both sides of the Atlantic.

Music Week cites the band’s recent appearance at the Grammy Awards as a major factor in the boost in sales, reporting a 99% increase in the US since their performance at the ceremony. In the UK, further exposure at last month’s Brit Awards ceremony also greatly aided sales in the UK, with a massive 266% rise in subsequent weeks.

The milestone marks the first time a British band has achieved the feat since Coldplay, themselves now one of the world’s biggest acts, reached the landmark with their 2008 release ‘Viva La Vida Or Death and All His Friends‘.

Released in October 2009, ‘Sigh No More‘ almost immediately enjoyed mainstream success thanks to a string of hit radio singles including ‘Little Lion Man‘, ‘The Cave‘ and ‘Winter Winds‘.
