A 1965 documentary following The Rolling Stones on a short, rabid tour of Ireland has been lovingly restored and will now finally receive an official release.

Charlie Is My Darling chronicles a two-date Irish stop for the Stones in the September of ’65, and has circulated as a bootleg for many years despite never being given a proper release.

However, after painstaking remastering of the footage, the tour film will now be available officially from November 6th. “We did some pretty serious science on this,” director Mick Gochanour has told Billboard of the restoration process.

“It took eight months to synch up the soundtrack with the live performances. We realised during the middle that we had six complete performances from the two different cities, recorded on long-obsolete three-track tape.”

“There were three tracks: the audience, Mick, and the band. The audience recording was slightly out-of-synch with the band, and when we aligned them, it gave unbelievable definition to the bass and drums.”

The documentary adds to a growing list of special releases for the legendary band as they continue to celebrate their 50th year. Earlier this month, it was confirmed a fresh greatest hits collection entitled ‘GRRR!‘ will contain two original tracks – the first batch of new material from the Stones since 2005.
