Gorillaz front man Damon Albarn has announced that the next Gorillaz LP will be made available as a free download this Xmas.

The band’s fourth studio album was actually created on the singer’s  iPad during the recent US tour and will be available online on Christmas Day.

Bandmate Jamie Hewlett said: ‘On our website on Christmas Eve we will release a video for a new song. And on Christmas Day fans can download the album for free.’

On  the conclusion of their current world tour the group is set to wind down according to statements from the two made this week.

Albarn and Hewlett revealed to Theage.com that the size of Gorillaz latest tour was taking its toll on the band.

‘It’s been an unqualified success – bizarrely,’ Albarn said.

‘But as far as communicating an idea to an audience, who knows? We always think that when we get to a point where we’ve achieved something that it’s time to stop.’

Hewlett agreed t, adding: ‘This would be a wonderful point to leave Gorillaz, at the end of this tour, I think.’

‘That’s not a statement,’ he clarified. ‘I’m just saying if that were the case… Gorillaz is more like a big sprawling gang of people you could do any number of projects with.’

The band’s 2010 album Plastic Beach was jam packed with  guest star performances from artists such as  Lou Reed, Snoop Dogg and The Clash’s Mick Jones and Paul Simonon.
