Manchester’s Everything Everything broke new ground last night (15th Dec) when their gig at London’s Union Chapel became the first to be streamed live via Apple’s iPad.

Fans with access to an iPad or iPhone were able to download a special free app entitled ‘Man Alive – Everything Everything’, which then broadcast the show direct from the iconic London venue. An edited version of the performance is likely to also be made available to the app users later today.

“We wanted to try something unique,” singer Jonathan Higgs told NME. “The concert sold out and we wanted to do something special for fans who couldn’t get tickets. We couldn’t hijack a TV channel but not we can play live to people on the bus, or wherever they want to hear it,” Higgs added.

Everything Everything have enjoyed a rapid growth over the course of 2010 after appearing on the BBC‘s annual Sound Of shortlist at the turn of the year, and were recently featured by Live4ever on our Essential Listening 2010 countdown.
