thecharlatansphotoFormer Verve drummer Pete Salisbury is to join The Charlatans as a temporary replacement for Jon Brookes who has been diagnosed with a brain tumour, the band’s official website has announced.

The group’s official website makes it clear that it is almost certain Salisbury will be on board when the Manchester band return to the UK for a tour in October.

Brookes’ stopped breathing and collapsed during a show in Philadelphia last week, and after undergoing extensive tests since, has been found to have a brain tumour. The band have released a statement outlining Brookes’ condition, and thanked fans for their support. “The Charlatans drummer Jon Brookes is currently undergoing treatment in the UK for a brain tumour following the postponement of the remaining dates of Charlatans North American tour,” they wrote.

“The Charlatans touring schedule remains unaltered whilst the band arrange for a short term replacement. The band and Jon would like to thank all well wishers for their kind messages of support.”

The main portion of The Charlatans’ UK tour is due to begin at the Newcastle Academy on October 5th.
