The Cribs: Our New Song Is ‘Weird’

The Cribs have been discussing their forthcoming stand-alone single ‘Housewife‘, and have warned fans it may ‘weird people out’.

Speaking to digital station XFM’s Steve Harris, bass player Gary Jarman told of their love of stand-alone singles, a habit which Johnny Marr, who was welcomed aboard before the release of ‘Ignore The Ignorant‘ in 2009, also indulged in during his time with The Smiths. “We always do stand alone singles and it’s something that Johnny used to do with The Smiths,” Jarman said. “When you release three singles from the record, it’s like a quarter of the album. It feels a bit cynical.

We’re excited about the song, it’s definitely like a new direction for us. I’m sure it’ll weird a few people out. But that’s the whole point of being in a band, it’s good to go off at a tangent sometimes.”

Jarman also revealed the band are currently writing material for a follow-up to ‘Ignore The Ignorant‘, but are in no rush to get the music released any time yet. “We’re really at the start of the writing process,” he explained. “Things have been coming pretty quick, so we’ll just see how it goes. I don’t like to put a time limit on it, but we’ve been in the studio already and come out with four or five songs.”

Housewife‘ is out now via iTunes.
