There’s always plenty of issues to ponder during the SXSW Festival. Things like, how can you get from La Zona Rosa to Lustre Pearl in less than 20 seconds to see your 14th band of the day, is it possible to live off beer alone for a whole week, and in the case of Glasgow-based rockers Twin Atlantic, just what does it take for employees to win a one-star rating at McDonald’s?

The group which became Twin Atlantic was first initiated by frontman Sam McTrusty and bass player Ross McNae, who began jamming together whilst still at school. After immersing themselves in the local Glasgow music scene, they were joined by cellist Barry McKenna, before a former band-mate of Ross’, drummer Craig Kneale, completed the current line-up. In January 2008, they released their first EP ‘A Guidance From Colour‘, which was followed last September by the mini-album ‘Vivarium‘.

They arrived in Austin for their second SXSW already on the back of a clutch of US dates, and will hit New York on the 24th of this month for a show at Irving Plaza in New York City.

As well as discussing the important McDonald’s issue, we also talked with the band about some of the stand-out events in their career so far, including playing with one of their country’s biggest bands, Biffy Clyro, and experiencing the famous welcoming nature of the Smashing Pumpkins.
