Kings Of Leon’s smash-hit fourth album ‘Only By The Night‘ has been confirmed as the UK’s highest selling digital record, after shifting over 250,000 units since it’s release in 2008.
‘Only By The Night‘ is the only album to have passed the 200,000 mark in the UK, although Lady Gaga’s ‘The Fame‘ is expected to pass 200,000 digital sales this month. Florence & The Machine’s debut album ‘Lungs‘ is also climbing steadily, and is third on the list less than a year after it’s release.
Speaking about the list, Official Charts Company managing director Martin Talbot said: “This is an incredible achievement by Kings Of Leon, one of the few acts in recent years to have crossed over from true alternative territory into the mainstream. To date, just 12 albums have passed the 100,000 download mark, but the explosive success of Kings Of Leon illustrates the growing popularity of album downloading among music fans, which has been steadily increasing over the past three years.”
