Vampire Weekend Humble About Album Success

Vampire Weekend

A lot of bands would be happy to have their album make billboard’s top 200 list – what about a chart topping  album? Well this achievement didn’t seem to impress Vampire Weekend much, who recently watched their release “Contra” rocket to the #1 spot on the  US album charts.

The group explained that it would be “shallow” to get excited about the success of  ‘Contra’  because it is all down to luck.

Singer and front man Ezra Koenig said: “It’s exciting, but you’re number one for a week and then you’re not.

“Even with a number one there’s still plenty of people who’ve never heard of you. There’s so much to do. To be number one versus number three or number five, that’s the luck of the draw.

“Our day-to-day has changed so little. It’s not like now the glitz and glamour surrounds us.”

Rostam Batmanglij, guitarist and keyboardist for the group added: “The meaningful accomplishments are internal. It’s shallow to be proud of how many records you’ve sold.”

Ezra gave NME magazine some insight on just how much of a party group the four friends are:  “I woke up from a nap and saw it on an email and went back to sleep. Then later on in the night we did a toast. We had some fun but nothing too crazy.”
