Yes pay tribute to founder member Peter Banks

Progressive rock band Yes have spoken of their ‘deep sadness’ after founding member Peter Banks died last week at the age of 65.

A statement on Banks’ official website has confirmed the guitarist passed away on March 7th after being found at his home when he failed to show up for a recording session. “We are deeply saddened to learn about the passing of fellow bandmate and founding Yes member, Peter Banks,” Yes’ statement reads.

“He was a huge piece of the fabric that made Yes what it is, and our thoughts, sincere condolences and prayers are with him and his family. Peter, we shall miss you greatly.”

Peter Banks was a part of Yes for their first two studio albums – the 1969 self-titled debut and 1970’s ‘Time and a Word‘ – before he moved on to form Flash, who released three records during a hectic 1972.

Another group, Empire, also followed, as is did five solo albums, the last of which arrived in 1997.
