WHO?
My name’s Luke I play bass in The Marra. Then we have Ryan on vocals and acoustic guitar, Matthew on lead guitar, Shane on rhythm and Conor on drums.
WHERE?
We’re all from Derry, Ireland.
WHEN?
I started playing when I was around 7, when I realised I wasn’t great at football!
WHY?
Myself and the band all have our own tastes, but I think The Marra all share the love for just great rock n roll music like The Beatles and The Stones as well as bands of today like Fontaines, Wolf Alice and Wet Leg.
PAST?
Myself and Matthew play in a band called TOUTS. Conor was playing with The Switch, and Shane and Ryan had been writing and recording under The Marra guise, but decided they wanted a full band to take it to the stage again.
PRESENT?
In terms of sound, a lot of The Marra’s tunes seem to embody different styles, whether that be 90’s Britpop, jangle-pop, grunge or even country. We don’t want to pigeon-hole ourselves in that sense, but I think what ties it all together and what makes it coherent is that all the songs sound like us.

FUTURE?
Just to be bigger than The Undertones, sell a fuck load of records and have a ball. Being in a band is a lot more difficult than being in a relationship, it’s a fragile thing but I truly believe we have something special brewing if we keep the heads down.
HOW?
Falling Off was written around the end of November. I have this weird thing that every year when November would swing round I would ‘fall off the wagon’ in terms of just drinking excessively and getting myself into messy situations. That’s essentially what I was trying to convey through the song.
We recorded the song in our hometown, Derry with Rory Donaghey in Blast Furnace studio while Gordon Raphael took care of the mixing.
DID YOU KNOW?
The strangest thing that’s happened to The Marra so far is that a couple of months ago we had Paul Weller come to our practice space and listen to some of our demos. He’s just a really down to earth, cool guy and gave us some great feedback and advice for going forward. We even got him to put down an organ part on a demo which was surreal!
WHAT’S NEXT?
Well we’ve just released our first single Falling Off so we’re just starting to plan more gigs and a full tour at the minute, we also have a few more songs ready to go so they’ll be coming out soon so keep your ears to the ground!
