A Japanese White Stripes gig recorded during the duo’s first visit to the country back in October 2000 has been lifted from the Third Man Records vault and will be released via its subscription series later this year.
‘Live Under The Lights Of The Rising Sun‘ documents Jack and Meg White supporting The 5.6.7.8’s in Tokyo over two consecutive nights nearly 14 years ago, and is said to display a typically comprehensive setlist of 31 songs including covers of ‘I’m Bored‘ by Iggy Pop and the Screaming Lord Sutch song ‘Jack The Ripper‘, while there’s also an early version of ‘Dead Leaves and The Dirty Ground‘, a track which would go on to lead third album ‘White Blood Cells‘ the following summer.
Also aired during the performance was the ‘De Stijl‘ album track ‘Hello Operator‘ – a tantalising snippet of which has been uploaded by Third Man to Soundcloud and can be heard below.
