White Lies are offering four new tracks on a deluxe edition of their most recent album Friends.
“We wrote nearly two-dozen songs in the year leading up to the recording of ‘Friends’,” Charles Cave explains. “Harry and myself worked every day through the seasons even after we had enough material for a double album. Songs like ‘Don’t Fall’ and ‘Come On’ wouldn’t have existed had we stopped any sooner. In the studio we whittled the list down to fourteen, and then only at the very final moment did we decide which ten would make the album.”
“So these four we are releasing now aren’t B-sides. They’re songs which, perhaps even given a different time or mood, could have sat comfortably on the album. The title track ‘Friends’ – perhaps notable in its absence from the album – is the most ‘out-there’ piece of music we’ve recorded, and ‘What I Need’ is certainly the fastest!”
“We’re so thrilled to share these with our fans. We think they stand up with everything on ‘Friends’ and we anticipate people to feel the same way.”
The expanded version is streaming now and available to buy digitally.
