‘I just wanted to be one of The Strokes, now look at the mess you made me make’. With that Alex Turner clunked his teenage dreams into the opening bars of Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino with very little subtlety, and as the Arctic Monkeys continue the album’s North American tour it seems he’s intent on in turn continuing to revisit his early-noughties US rock education.
After using the band’s gig in New York to cover The Strokes once again, their stop in Detroit last night provided the perfect opportunity to doff their cap to White Blood Cells and The Union Forever. Check out fan footage below.
Arctic Monkeys are at Lollapalooza tonight and will head back to the UK next month before another run of North American gigs in October.
