Charlatans frontman Tim Burgess is the ambassador for next year’s Independent Venue Week.
In taking on the role, Burgess has said music fans ‘need to stick together’ to stop the trend of small music venues closing down. To this end, a host of acts will be playing gigs across the UK between January 23rd-29th 2017, including Richard Hawley, Cass McCombs, Cabbage, Martha Wainwright, Beans On Toast and Allusondrugs.
“Independent venues are where every band starts and where music fans get to see emerging talent,” Tim says. “Without them bands would not get a chance for their all-important first hometown gigs and subsequent tours. These venues and bands need our support and the best way you can do that is by having a night out.
“Lots of venues are closing – we definitely need to stick together and stop this happening.”
Burgess himself plays a show at the Royal Albert Hall’s Elgar Room on January 23rd with support from Tear and Pheromoans.
