Organisers of New York’s Governors Ball festival admitted The Strokes have had ‘an open invitation’ to perform at the event since it first began in 2011 during a Q&A on Reddit.
Discussing the booking of The Strokes, who are due to make what has become a rare live appearance when the Governors Ball is held at Randall’s Island Park over the weekend of June 6th-8th, they said:
“We have tried to book The Strokes every single year that Gov Ball has existed. They essentially have had an open invite to play when they wanted. We got a call from their agent at the very last minute, saying that they wanted to reunite and play at the festival. Dream come true for us. We’re New York City kids, and they are the greatest NYC rock band of our generation.”
Outkast, Jack White and Vampire Weekend will headline, while Strokes frontman Julian Casablancas is also set for a solo performance at the festival.
