The Cribs‘ bass player Gary Jarman has said leaving Wichita Recordings – the independent label which the band have called home for ten years – was like ‘breaking up with a girlfriend’.
Their move from Wichita to Sony RED in readiness for the release of their sixth studio album early next year was announced last week, with manager James Sandom citing a ‘fresh impetus and new approach’ as the reason for their departure.
And during an interview with BBC Newsbeat, Jarman has revealed just how tough a decision it was, remembering the ‘personal’ nature of being on an independent label for such a long period of time.
“For us it was really, really hard, we haven’t really spoken about it,” he said. “It was difficult really, we’ve been with Wichita a long time, so it was really hard, it was like a break up with a girlfriend.”
“When you are on an indie label, when you have grown together, it’s much more personal. Like I said, it is more like breaking up with someone more than a business thing.”
The Cribs are in the studio with producer Ric Ocasek, once of The Cars, as they work on the follow-up to 2012’s wonderful ‘In The Belly Of The Brazen Bull‘.
