Rostam Batmanglij, formerly of Vampire Weekend, has shared his new solo track ‘Gravity Don’t Pull Me‘.
It’s the first offering from Rostam since his departure from Vampire Weekend was confirmed back in January, and precedes an expected full length album release later this year and his debut solo gig on the Brian Wilson-led bill at Brooklyn’s Northside Festival on June 12th.
Rostam spoke of his ‘identity as a songwriter and producer’ needing to ‘stand on its own’ when explaining his parting of ways with Vampire Weekend earlier this year, though his now former cohort Ezra Koenig was quick to talk of the close ties he will nevertheless keep with the band in the future.
“A couple years ago, Rostam and I sat down at his house and talked about whether our collaboration was dependent on being members of the same band,” he wrote on Instagram.
