Pink Floyd have backed an Iranian resistance movement which has adopted the band’s 1979 smash hit ‘Another Brick In The Wall‘. Founding member Roger Waters granted permission for the song to be re-worked by duo Blurred Vision who currently reside in Canada.
The new vision of the classic track will be entitled ‘Another Brick in the Wall (Hey Ayatollah, Leave Those Kids Alone)‘. An accompanying video features images of Ayatollah Khamenei, who was President of Iran from 1981-1989 following the 1979 Iranian revolution and also features footage of street violence which erupted following Iran’s highly charged elections last year. The video has caused a stir on YouTube and currently has over 100,000 hits.
The brains behind the track, brothers Sepp and Sohl have kept their surnames secret for fear of recriminations, but have said they hope the song’s “anti-authoritarian message” will highlight the suffering of many people in Iran.
Originally released as a single in November 1979, ‘Another Brick In The Wall‘ is one of Pink Floyd’s biggest commercial success’, and was the second part of three which appeared on the band’s eleventh studio album ‘The Wall‘.
The song can be downloaded from iTunes with all proceeds going towards the Amnesty International charity, which fights for human rights around the world.
