Into the resurgent domain of spoken word charm inhabited by the likes of John Cooper Clarke and Mike Garry comes former NME journalist Gavin Martin.
Martin’s ingenious reminiscing of a bygone musical age – ‘back when the NME was a friend of mine’ – is the subject of his I Want To Tell You Something single, due for release on November 17th and part of the debut album Talking Musical Revolutions.
On the record, his poetry is set to music from various artists, on this track the Newcastle band Vito.
Martin’s career in music journalism began as publisher of the Northern Ireland punk fanzine Alternative Ulster, something the single’s artwork remembers with an image of Clash frontman Joe Strummer surrounded by gardening tools; a cover which itself paid homage to the gift of a lawnmower which Strummer sent to the fanzine after their interview with the band in October 1977.
