Mike Love has denied sacking Brian Wilson from The Beach Boys, despite recently releasing a letter which revealed Wilson, along with Al Jardine and David Marks, would not continue with the band following their 50th anniversary commitments.
Love’s original letter explained that: “The 50th Reunion Tour was designed to be a set tour with a beginning and an end to mark a special 50-year milestone for the band.”
In response, Brian Wilson told CNN that he ‘couldn’t understand’ the decision, adding that the fired trio are ‘the real Beach Boys’. However, Love has insisted the letter’s comments didn’t amount to a sacking, adding that he doesn’t have the authority even if he wanted to.
“I did not fire Brian Wilson from the Beach Boys,” Love has said. “I cannot fire Brian Wilson from the Beach Boys. I am not his employer. I do not have such authority. And even if I did, I would never fire Brian Wilson from the Beach Boys. I love Brian Wilson.”
