There’s lots of room for reflection for Jack White on ‘Acoustic Recordings‘; on the White Stripes, The Raconteurs and the various other avenues his career has taken since the late nineties.
But ‘City Lights’ stands out as something a bit more than that. For White, and us White Stripes devotees, it’s giving a first ‘new’ song to emerge since the band split in 2011. Discovered from the dusty archives of the 2005 ‘Get Behind Me Satan‘ sessions, it’s piqued the interest of Michel Gondry too, who’s now granted it a video as a ‘genius surprise gift’ to Third Man Records – the label says:
“It’s a genius surprise gift. On his own and without anyone’s knowledge, the legendary film-maker shot a video for ‘City Lights’.”
‘Acoustic Recordings’ was also promoted with an emotional live performance on Jimmy Fallon’s US chat show last Friday evening ahead of his visit to the UK and Later…With Jools Holland tomorrow.
