It would appear Jake Bugg has been unmoved by the Stone Roses‘ new music, while he had an equally big shrug of the shoulders for Noel Gallagher‘s thoughts on the use of co-writers.
Asked by Shortlist about the new Roses material, Bugg responded: “It’s just Stone Roses, innit? I’m not a fan”, and was then quizzed for the umpteenth time on Noel Gallagher commenting that he was left ‘heartbroken’ when he discovered Bugg had used outside help on his first two studio albums.
“I don’t care, to be honest,” Bugg said. “If I didn’t agree in the first place, I wouldn’t have got a record deal. People call it selling out, but if you don’t compromise, you might not get a chance to continue playing music.”
“And on this record I didn’t write with anybody so it gave me the chance to experiment.”
Indeed, Bugg has been at pains to emphasise the more authentic solo nature of his new album, from the title ‘On My One‘ to self-production on all but three tracks. It’s released tomorrow.
