In an instant grat industry of streams, downloads and inflated tickets bought at venue doors, British singer-songwriter Findlay is a timely reminder that everything good doesn’t have to come at once.
“I signed my first record deal when I was 17, like a big major deal, and I didn’t know my arse from my elbow at that point, let alone anything about the music industry,” she told Live4ever at the 2018 South By Southwest Festival. “I think they just wanted me to be something that I either wasn’t ready to be or didn’t know what I wanted to be yet.”
“So they had me in ‘development’ for a long time, and then the guy that signed me left and I was just floating around…It’s no-one’s fault, it happens. So they dropped me when I was 21 and then I was like, ‘I don’t know if I want to do this anymore’.”
