Former Creation Records boss Alan McGee has said the forthcoming stage play he is writing with Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh will not be centred around the 90s Britpop scene which himself and Oasis spearheaded.
McGee told the NME that although the musical may contain some established Britpop hits, the play will not purely be a tale of the hedonistic life and times of Creation.
“I don’t want to give away what we’re already talking about, but it’s not going to be like ‘Noel walked in and then Liam walks over, and then Bobby Gillespie walks in’,” he said. “It’s nothing to do with Creation or Britpop in that respect.”
Late last year, the film Upside Down did document the rise and ultimate demise of Creation, from its early days with the likes of Primal Scream and The Jesus and Mary Chain to their commercial pomp in the nineties with Oasis, and featured contributions from most of the key figures in the fascinating story.
