Legendary actor Al Pacino is reportedly ready to take on the role of Phil Spector in a new biography being developed by HBO Films, reports the New York Times.
Famous for his ‘Wall Of Sound’ production technique, Spector was behind the desk for some of the most enduring recordings of the 1960s, including hits such as ‘You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin‘ by The Righteous Brothers, ‘River Deep – Mountain High‘ by Ike and Tina Turner and ‘Baby, I Love You‘ by The Ronettes. He has also worked on a clutch of classic albums, and mixed the rough recordings of The Beatles’ ‘Let It Be‘ record. His colourful life took a dark turn in 2003 when he was accused of murdering his girlfriend Lana Clarkson, a crime for which he was convicted of last year.
International Creative Management agent John L. Burnham, who represents Al Pacino, explained his client’s decision for taking the role, including his admirarion for the project’s director and writer Barry Levinson and David Mamet: “He just saw a very interesting character to play, and he likes the sensibility of David and Barry,” he said.
The film is said to only be in the early development stages at this time, with no confirmation of a possible release date yet given.
