Popstar Lily Allen went home with three gongs after this year’s Ivor Novello Awards were handed out at a ceremony in London today (20/5).
Lily Allen’s hit single ‘The Fear‘ took the prizes for Best Song Musically and Lyrically and Most Performed Work, after which an emotional Allen said: “This song is so much about feeling so lost. It has made me feel quite found all of a sudden.” She completed her trio of wins by picking up the Best Songwriter award, which was shared with ‘The Fear‘ co-writer Greg Kurstin.
Paul Weller was presented with the Lifetime Achievement award by his good friend Noel Gallagher, and said: “I’ve enjoyed the last 33 years I’ve been writing songs and hopefully, with God’s good grace, I’ll do some more.” Other winners included Johnny Marr, who won the Inspiration Award, and Bat For Lashes, who were presented with the Best Contemporary Single for their track ‘Daniel‘. While picking up the award, singer Natasha Khan said: “Who would have thought when I was sitting in my pyjamas in my bed writing this song, I would be standing up here with this. I’m writing my new album and I hope to do many more Daniels.”
Elsewhere, Scottish singer-songwriter Paolo Nutini won Album Of The Year for his hugely successful second album ‘Sunny Side Up‘. “It’s two records in, I’ve got a lot to go yet,” Nutini told the BBC, while Duran Duran singer Simon Le Bon, who presented Nutini with his award, remarked: “Paolo’s album is uplifting and very pure, and it makes you smile.”
Lily Allen is set to delay her planned hiatus from music to support Muse at their upcoming gig at Wembley Stadium alongside The Big Pink and White Rabbits.
