The remaining members of AC/DC have described Malcolm Young as the ‘driving force’ of their band after the guitarist passed away last weekend.
Malcolm Young’s departure from the band he formed with brother Angus was confirmed back in September 2014, and not long after his family revealed he was suffering with dementia.
After news of his death at the age of 64 broke on Saturday, his former bandmates led the many tributes: “Today it is with deep heartfelt sadness that AC/DC has to announce the passing of Malcolm Young,” they said in a statement.
“Malcolm, along with Angus, was the founder and creator of AC/DC. With enormous dedication and commitment he was the driving force behind the band. As a guitarist, songwriter and visionary he was a perfectionist and a unique man. He always stuck to his guns and did and said exactly what he wanted. He took great pride in all that he endeavored. His loyalty to the fans was unsurpassed.”
The statement ends with Angus himself saying that, ‘it is hard to express in words what he has meant to me during my life, the bond we had was unique and very special’, while a joint family message said he had, ‘passed away peacefully with his family by his bedside’.
