Foo Fighters have been confirmed as the next musical guests of Saturday Night Live with the announcement of their new album widely expected soon.
Dave Grohl had been hoping to mark the 25th anniversary of when he basically started the band in his basement with only assorted instruments for company this year by retracing the first tour he subsequently went on as Foo Fighters, plans ultimately shelved because of coronavirus restrictions.
But the tenth studio record which he’d also hoped would coincide with the anniversary looks close, an album whose prospects he discussed with Mojo back in March: ”I’ve never entered into the album process thinking, ‘We’re the greatest, most amazing, biggest band in the world’,” he said (via NME).
”You might convince yourself of that when you’re in a room listening to shit you’ve just recorded. But the second you hit play in front of a roomful of strangers, you turn into a six-year-old kid with his pants down at school. Absolutely.”
“We’ve kind of become the AC/DC of post-grunge or whatever. So, the reaction is going to be interesting. It’s the most pop fantastic album we’ve ever made.”
