Rina Sawayama, Pa Salieu and Griff will find out who’s won this year’s BRITs Rising Star award on March 19th.
Rina Sawayama, Pa Salieu and Griff are the shortlisted artists for the 2021 BRITs Rising Star award.
Under its various guises down the years, the likes of Adele, Sam Fender and most recently Celeste have been recipients of the prize, and Sawayama has said she, ‘literally fell to the floor’ upon hearing the news.
“I really can’t put into words how much this means to me given that I wasn’t eligible for this award a few weeks ago and now that door has been opened for future generations of artists like myself,” she continues.
“Thank you so much to everyone who voted for me, it means the world.”
As alluded to, Sawayama’s nomination comes just a short time after she won a campaign to change the eligibility rules for both the Brit Awards and the Mercury Prize.
