The full list of artists who’ll be paying to tribute to Andy Gill should be out next month.
The initial details of an Andy Gill tribute album have been released, with Tom Morello and System Of A Down‘s Serj Tankian set to helm its first single.
The pair’s cover of Gang Of Four‘s classic Entertainment! debut album track Natural’s Not In It will be premiered on New Year’s Day 2021, what would have been Gill’s 65th birthday.
The Problem Of Leisure: A Celebration Of Andy Gill And Gang Of Four, is then due to follow in May next year, comprising tracks from a four-decade career handpicked by the artists involved.
“Andy Gill was one of a handful of artists in history who changed the way guitars are played,” Tom Morello says. “His band Gang of Four were just incendiary and completely groundbreaking with Andy’s confrontational, unnerving and sublime playing at the forefront.
“His jagged plague-disco raptor-attack industrial-funk deconstructed guitar anti-hero sonics and fierce poetic radical intellect were hugely influential to me.”
