Fontaines D.C. were performing as part of the Live For SiriusXMU sessions.

The Pogues comparisons were immediate and obvious, if not entirely legitimate, as Fontaines D.C. began to really make a splash during 2019.

But the heritage, influence and lyrical focus, as well as the sound of particular tracks such as Dublin City Sky, strengthens an undeniable link between the two bands which is on full display here with Fontaines’ version of I’m a Man You Don’t Meet Every Day, recorded live for SiriusXM.

It’s one of the many traditional standards made notorious by The Pogues, this one featuring on their classic 1985 second album Rum Sodomy & The Lash, featuring vocals Cait O’Riordan.

Fontaines have been restricted to these type of sessions since the release of A Hero’s Death earlier this year, ‘what happens when people start to talk to each other again, a jigsaw of a human being put back together’, according to Live4ever.
