Brendan Benson previews new solo album Dear Life with Richest Man

Brendan Benson

Brendan Benson is one of those who’s kept an album release for this month, and will put out Dear Life, his first solo LP in almost seven years, on April 24th. Another track from it, Richest Man, has just been shared.

“I never thought I would write a song about domesticity,” Benson says. “When I wrote the words, I thought I would eventually change them to something a little less literal and “family man”, but in the end, I decided I liked the lyrics, for those two reasons.”

Dear Life is being released on Third Man, the label initiated by Benson’s Raconteurs buddy Jack White. “There’s something about this record,” he adds. “A friend of mine called it ‘life-affirming.’ I thought it was a joke at first but then realized, well, it’s about life and death for sure. I don’t know if that’s positive or optimistic or whatever, but that’s what’s going on with me.”
