Merely a matter of days after confirming a large of part of their line-up for June, Michael and Emily Eavis have revealed this year’s Glastonbury Festival will no longer be taking place.
In a statement, they said that whilst they hoped the situation in the UK ‘will have improved enormously’ by the time Glastonbury was due to take place at the end of June, the current restrictions and advice on social isolating means that the annual preparations to turn Worthy Farm into the world famous festival would not be viable.
Glastonbury becomes perhaps the highest profile musical event to be affected by the coronavirus pandemic, given that Coachella is planning to take place later in the year instead of its usual April slot.
Kendrick Lamar had just been confirmed as the final Pyramid Stage headliner for 2020, joining Paul McCartney and Taylor Swift. Others on the bill included Diana Ross, Noel Gallagher and Lana Del Rey.
The organisers have also promised all tickets will be valid for next year, though how much of this year’s line-up will be in Somerset for 2021 is, clearly, not known.
We are so sorry to announce this, but we are going to have to cancel Glastonbury 2020. Tickets for this year will roll over to next year. Full statement below and on our website. Michael & Emily pic.twitter.com/ox8kcQ0HoB
