Trent Reznor can look back fondly on the 2010s as a decade in which he forged a new path as an acclaimed film score composer. It all started with David Fincher and the 2010 movie The Social Network, and Reznor has revealed he is ready to begin the new decade in much the same way by collaborating with Fincher again on the director’s upcoming movie Mank.

“We’re not gonna be using the modular synthesizer on that one,” Reznor has said in an interview with Revolver. “We think we’re gonna be period authentic, so it just creates a new set of challenges.”

One thing Reznor won’t, it seems, be looking back on with any happy memories is his time spent working on the music for Bird Box, something which he told the same publication proved to be ‘a waste of time’.

“When we got immersed in it, it felt like some people were phoning it in,” he said. “And you’re stuck with a film editor who had real bad taste. That’s kind of our barricade to getting stuff in the film.”
