Morrissey has released a performance video of his cover of The Pretenders’ 1982 single Back On The Chain Gang.
Speaking to Rolling Stone, Morrissey has described his relationship with Chrissie Hynde as one of his ‘longest and enduring friendships’, while he believes the song can ‘safely be counted as a pop classic’. “She sang on my 1991 U.K. single My Love Life and also on a track on my Swords album called Shame Is the Name,” he continues.
“Chrissie is the funniest person in the world, yet she has absolutely no sense of humor. We have been in many absurd situations – all her fault, of course. I know she’d marry me tomorrow, but she’s already had 11 husbands and she’s always being spotted digging in the garden at midnight.”
The promo coincides with the start of Morrissey’s tour around the US, Mexico and South America, which is opening with Californian gigs that continue at the Tropicalia Fest in Long Island tomorrow.
