Greg Lake, a leading figure in the seventies progressive rock movement through his time with Emerson, Lake & Palmer and King Crimson, has died at the age of 69.
It was his manager Stewart Young who broke the news on Facebook, writing that Lake had passed away after a ‘long and stubborn battle with cancer’.
“Yesterday, December 7th, I lost my best friend to a long and stubborn battle with cancer,” he said. “Greg Lake will stay in my heart for ever, as he has always been. His family would be grateful for privacy during this time of their grief.”
Lake’s passing comes at a time of year when another of his fondly remembered contributions to music becomes more prominent; the anti-sentiment of I Believe In Father Christmas a regular on countless festive playlists since its release in 1975.
