Shaun Ryder has teamed up with Paul Oakenfold and his Black Grape bandmates Kermit and Goldie to launch an unofficial soundtrack to England’s imminent European Championships campaign.
Although tracks such as ‘Three Lions‘ and ‘World In Motion‘ have become synonymous with past campaigns, the 2016 tournament is lacking an inspirational official song for the England team – a vacuum Ryder is hoping to fill.
“Hopefully our song will send out a positive vibe to the England fans and put a smile on their faces,” he says.
“We did two writing sessions at my house in the ‘man cave’ then two studio sessions in Manchester,” he continues. “Me and Kermit wrote the lyrics and Dan Broad, the Mondays and Black Grape’s musical director engineered it. It was recorded all over the place – Oakey was in Los Angeles, Goldie was in Thailand and me and Kermit in Salford and Manchester.”
“We had a few Guinnesses in the studio so it’s a bit hazy, but we did film the studio time and the writing sessions. We were calling ourselves the four lions, but that should be three lions and a sea lion (Shaun the sea lion). I thought we made a really good team and everybody involved had a good vibe. Maybe we should knock off a few more tracks seeing as we’re on a roll.”
The track is available through BMG from tomorrow (June 8th).
