The UK leg of Record Store Day has announced a new partnership with the BBC.
Ahead of the ninth annual bash in April, the BBC has signed up to provide pre-event coverage courtesy of DJ Steve Lamacq, whose radio station BBC 6Music is to exclusively reveal this year’s product list. More ‘special coverage’ is also planned across the network.
“BBC Music is always keen to support moments that unite people through their love of music,” James Stirling, BBC Music Editor, remarks.
“Record Store Day does exactly that and we are very happy to be officially involved this year.”
Launched in 2007 at a time when vinyl sales were very much in the doldrums at annual figures of around just 200,000, Record Store Day is credited with leading a massive renaissance in the traditional format since, a resurgence which is predicted to see sales go past the two million barrier this year.
