James Arthur, winner of the 2012 edition of The X Factor, is leading the race for this year’s Christmas Number One with the track ‘Impossible‘.
The song is number one this week after becoming the fastest selling single in the UK of 2012, and has now shifted another 76,000 copies since December 16th, giving Arthur a narrow 3,000 advantage over his current nearest rival, ‘He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother‘ by The Justice Collective.
“While James Arthur has an early lead over The Justice Collective after just two days of sales, it is exceptionally tight – especially with Christmas gift purchases likely to impact on both releases as the week progresses,” Official Charts Company’s managing director Martin Talbot has commented.
“It looks like being an extremely exciting race for this year’s Official Christmas number one.”
The Justice Collective’s cover of the Hollies‘ Sixties classic has seen a number of music stars come together with the aim of raising money for the ongoing legal costs of the families of the 1989 Hillsborough disaster victims.
