Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker has said the band’s ongoing reunion will not involve a new album at any point in the future.
Cocker had previously appeared to be open to the possibility of the Sheffield band recording new material when speaking with NME back in June. “I’ve enjoyed doing these shows because the idea was, could we manage to do it again, to make it feel like it was worth doing and to make it sound right? And I think we managed to do that,” he said.
“I suppose once you’ve done that, the next thing is; would you make some new music? I’ve enjoyed the fact that we haven’t been doing any new stuff, because I feel that’s kept it quite simple. It’s hard one. We haven’t been in the studio or anything. I don’t know what will happen in the future.”
Now though, when asked a similar question by Q, Cocker has said he would rather continue to focus on their existing back catalogue.
“It was a big enough challenge to learn how to play all the old songs and, hopefully, perform them in a convincing way,” he has explained. “It also means you aren’t trying to flog anything to anyone – then you have to do interviews and convince people they have to go and but this new record as well! It was kinda nice not to have to do that.”
Pulp will end their year with a one-off, hometown gig at the Sheffield Motorpoint Arena on December 8th.
