After strong rumours gathered pace over the past few weeks, rock supergroup Coldplay have become the second act to be confirmed as headliners at this year’s Glastonbury festival, after popstar Beyonce was also pencilled in last week.

Coldplay will return to familiar ground at Worthy Farm this June, after first headlining the event’s famous Pyramid Stage in 2002 as the band were about to achieve world-wide fame with their second album ‘A Rush Of Blood To The Head‘. They last topped the bill at Glastonbury in 2005.

“Coldplay have played such a major part in the festival over the last 10 years or so,” said organiser Michael Eavis. “This is the triumphant return of a band that everyone here feels part of. They’re one of the greatest phenomena to grow from these fields.”

It is widely expected U2, who were forced to cancel a scheduled appearance at Glastonbury last year due to an injury sustained by frontman Bono, will complete this year’s Pyramid Stage headliners.
