Glasvegas have made their new single ‘The World is Yours‘ available for free download on their website and it’s an explosive track that after the minute or so of tripped out intro, kicks in with a blinding beat, that makes you rewind to the start, crank up the volume and get ready for it a second time. The best thing? It’s better the second time, third time and so on.
It’s followed quickly by James Allan’s dynamic and wholly unique vocals that sound just like the title of the album: full of euphoria and heartbreak. ‘You don’t need me as much as I need you’ lyrics follow ‘the fear of losing you is elevating me…’ but the song is far from downbeat but it is dark and moody.
A song from the end of the world is a good way to explain it, like an apocalyptic vision. You can’t take your eyes off the video and your ears away from the sound; it’s captivating, it’s powerful and the grit of Allan’s Scottish accent fits the scene perfectly. His voice lifts you to the ceiling and crashes you back to the floor in a heartbeat and not enough artists these days put that kind of emotion into a song.
If this is how the rest of the album is, it’ll be an emotional roller-coaster of a journey but one that will be well worth it. Catch their upcoming March gigs in Edinburgh’s Liquid Rooms, Glasgow’s QMU and London’s Heaven for a glimpse of what’s to come.
