Suede frontman Brett Anderson has dismissed mainstream reality TV shows such as the X Factor as ‘cheesy’, and claimed the genre of shows inspires other acts to make more exciting music.
“When there’s something really cheesy in the mainstream like The X Factor it inspires something in the counter-culture to oppose it,” Anderson told Metro. “The interesting flipside is with people like Bat For Lashes – people making exciting leftfield music. It’s a reaction to the dross in the mainstream.”

Anderson was also asked if he has any interest in joining the ever-growing list of his Nineties contemporaries who have published their own memoirs focusing on the Britpop era. “No,” he replied. “If I did they’d stop before I started making records. I have no interest in writing about the Britpop years. I can’t think of anything more tedious. It’s so obvious. How many more idiots do you want talking about it?”
Brett Anderson is currently enjoying a successful reunion with his Suede bandmates, and recently picked up the Inspiration prize at the 2010 Q Awards. The band are due to begin a European tour later this month, starting with a date at Barcelona’s Razzmatazz venue on the 26th.
