Folk-rockers Mumford & Sons have revealed they have recorded a track with Kinks legend Ray Davies which will appear on his new covers album.
Ben Lovett and Ted Dwane from the London four-piece joined John Kennedy on XFM’s X-posure show yesterday, during which they discussed recording a Kinks cover at Konk studios for Davies’ new collection. “He had mentioned that he’d like to include us”, they said. “It was the first time we’d heard about it so we jumped on it and chased it up. We spent two days in the studio with Ray Davies. We’re a little bit shell-shocked. We did a couple of songs – we did a medley. We did ‘Days’ and ‘This Time Tomorrow’.”
The new collection will feature a host of artists recording their versions of Kinks classics, and will include the likes of Bruce Springsteen (‘Better Things‘), Bon Jovi (‘Celluloid Heroes‘), Alex Chilton (‘Till The End Of The Day‘), and Paloma Faith (‘Lola‘), while Metallica and The Killers are also reported to be providing covers for the record.
Mumford & Sons have also released a four-track EP via iTunes with songwriter Laura Marling this week, which features traditional Rajasthani folk collective Dharohar Project. However, in their XFM interview, Ben and Ted explained that the EP is unlikely to be followed by a new studio album this year. “I don’t think we’re going to record a second album this year,” they said. “We’re playing too many shows.”
When is this collaboration album to be released??
We would like to cover a song for it. Seriously.
We would give some love to one of at least four songs that mean the world to me.
Peace
