Motown legend Stevie Wonder will join previously announced headliners New Order on the top of this year’s Bestival bill. it has been confirmed.
The headline performance will mark Stevie Wonder’s first visit to the Isle Of Wight event, and follows his highly acclaimed appearance at Glastonbury two years ago. He is also due to appear at the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee concert in June.
“Stevie’s a legend – one of the icons of 20th century music, and he’s still going strong,” Bestival organiser Rob da Bank has told the Guardian.
“I grew up listening to him on the radio in the 80s, but he’s smashed it in every decade. We’ve had a lot of big names at Bestival – whether that’s Amy Winehouse or the Cure – but no one quite of his stature, and we’ll be rolling out the red carpet. He’s absolutely perfect for the Sunday night crowd – he is following Sigur Rós, which is the sort of contrast I love.”
Other artists already confirmed for Bestival include The xx, Spiritualized and Emeli Sande.
